In a previous piece we looked at the most popular liposuction techniques past and present. In this article I want to show you all the exciting new methods of fat suction, some of which don’t even pierce the skin. Many of these, though not all, use laser technology of some kind.
Keep reading to see how these new and wonderful techniques are changing the way doctors perform plastic and cosmetic surgery forever. The West has developed a lot of these latest treatments for liposuction. Asia and the rest of the developed and developing nations are also now embracing them all, and there’s good reason for that.
The newer liposuction methods we will look at in this piece include:
- ProLipo PLUS
- LipoTherme and LipoControl
- Water Jet Assisted Liposuction
- Power Assisted Techniques (PAL)
Right, we have seven impressive methods here, so let’s begin from the top starting with Smartlipo.
Smartlipo (laser) is, as the name suggests, a smart method of liposuction. This is a simple yet exceedingly effective procedure. It basically uses laser energy to first liquefy body fat. Once the fat liquefies the doctor removes it using a small purpose built tube called a cannula.
CoolLipo is a non-invasive treatment they like to promote as safe, gentle and effective. It is a particularly efficient procedure for targeting those smaller pockets of stubborn fat. This will include places like the neck, chin and any other awkward areas that are out of reach of the more conventional methods. This is another of the laser-assisted treatments which dissolves body fat using special wavelengths. The process also helps to firm up the patient’s skin.
#3: ProLipo PLUS
Again, this is one more of the new family of laser liposuction techniques. Like the others we have looked at so far, ProLipo PLUS (or laser Sciton) also melts unwanted coagulates tissue and body fat. This technique is perfect for precise and specific contouring of the patient’s body. There is also much less bruising, swelling and bleeding with this treatment compared to more conventional liposuction.
This is another laser liposuction technique. But Lipolite is not a recommended treatment for weight loss per se. This is more of a cosmetic treatment to sculpt and contour the patient’s body. If you have stubborn areas of fat that need removing, Lipolite could be the perfect solution for you. This is a minimal invasive treatment thanks mainly to the tiny cannula and the fibre-optic laser. This means it’s an outpatient procedure in most cases. Under normal circumstances, treatment shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to an hour.
#5: LipoTherme and LipoControl
LipoTherme is by Osyris Medical. This is one more of those well-regarded laser lipolysis technologies. What’s so great about this method is that the surgeon can see exactly what they’re doing via a live image of the patient’s body. To be more specific, the image is of the area under the skin that the treatment targets. This is good because it doesn’t rely on touch and/or guesswork. The doctors can see exactly what they’re doing and where they’re at with their cannula at any given moment. This happens by way of heat imaging, which also maps out the location of the cannula and laser. The laser’s power gets stronger or weaker depending on how the surgeon moves the cannula under the skin.
If the doctor stops moving the cannula, then the laser stops working, it’s as simple as that. With a skilled pair of hands, this gives enormous precision and control to the surgeon. This control is something that is of huge benefit to modern liposuction. Needless to say you will want an experienced person to carry out this treatment on you. This advice goes for all treatments, not only LipoTherme and LipoControl. Although the concepts of laser liposuction techniques are simple, that doesn’t necessarily make them easy.
#6: Water Jet Assisted Liposuction
Water Jet Assisted Liposuction is another of the newer techniques. In fact, it’s becoming a preferred method for a lot of doctors. It works by using a pressurized stream of salted water (saline solution). This then dislodges the fat and simultaneously removes the fat cells. The treatment doesn’t actually destroy your fat cells. What it does is loosen them, which then enables fat removal in gentler way. Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction is perfect for the body sculpting of common areas. These include the tummy, inner and outer thighs and/or the bottom. There will be some bruising and swelling post-surgery but downtime isn’t usually too long. Under typical circumstances, the doctor will tell you to take at least one full day’s rest. You should then be able to go about your daily activities as normal. You can expect the bruising to take a few weeks before it disappears completely though.
SafeLipo is a technique that promotes reshaping as much as reducing body fat. This is one of the beautiful things about modern liposuction techniques. Some of the more conventional methods, especially the early procedures, would remove the fat and then send the patient home. The result was a slimmer body, but not necessarily a nice look. There would often be a lot of loose skin which sometimes needed additional surgery to fix.
The three areas that SafeLip target in a single treatment include:
- Redistribution 3. Contour augmentation
This liposuction really is changing the world of cosmetic surgery. It looks at the treatment of removing unwanted, stubborn body fat in a whole new way. This is a pioneering 3-step body contouring procedure that separates body fat with exploded-tip liposuction tubes (cannulas). And it does this without using any suction at all. If you would like to know more, be sure to talk to your plastic surgeon to discuss whether you’re a prime candidate for SafeLipo.
#8: Power Assisted Techniques (PAL)
And finally we have the Power Assisted Techniques or PAL. PAL devices get power from compressed air or from electric motors. It’s a technique they call tumescent liposuction. It works by the doctor injecting an aesthetic liquid into the target area. This allows for a smoother transfer of fat through the thin liposuction tube or cannula. It is a fast technique compared to others, which can lead to better results. It’s also a safer procedure than conventional liposuction with a faster recovery time.
