You have worked your butt off to slim down and get into better overall shape. At the start, everything goes well and you’re on track to reach your target weight. Then, all of a sudden you hit a weight loss plateau. And despite your best efforts to shift it, nothing seems to work. You’re then left with an area of unwanted body fat that just will not budge. It doesn’t seem fair, but it happens all the time, to the best of us. Perhaps you get to the point where you think the only option is liposuction. CoolSculpting is what surgeons refer to as a fat-freezing procedure. The kinds of people most suited to this type of treatment are those who are pretty close to their target weight. That means those of you who have tried everything and anything to slim down yet are still left with an area of suborn fat. These trouble spots vary depending on your gender.
Stubborn body fat tends to sit in these three problematic areas:

- Thighs (men or women)
CoolSculpting works by using a specific cryolipolysis tool. This cools down those areas of unwanted body fat to the point of actual cell death. It’s a targeted treatment and one that doesn’t affect any of the surrounding tissues. What happens next is particularly interesting. Over the days and weeks post-treatment, your body naturally flushes those dead fats cells out of your body. It takes an average of three months before you get to see the final results. You have to admit, that’s a pretty neat non-invasive treatment for removing stubborn body fat.
This is yet another impressive non-invasive technology. TruSculpt works by using RF (Radio Frequency). It delivers a deep heating affect to the adipose tissue which eliminates fat cells in the target area(s). The treatment itself lasts somewhere between one hour to 90 minutes, depending on the situation. In most cases, the patient will need a couple of treatments after which time they should get to see some noticeable results.
This is a cold low-laser treatment used to blast that stubborn body fat away. It works by the cold laser targeting and disrupting fat cells which then cause the release of fatty material and stored lipids. To put that into non-technical terms, it’s a procedure which creates fats cells to collapse. The body then naturally flushes the waste out of your system thus resulting in fat cell shrinkage.
With all these nonsurgical treatments, you can expect around 25 percent fat reduction in the treated areas. It is why they are ideal for folks who just have a bit of stubborn fat to remove. This is the fat that will not shift through the normal route of healthy diet and regular exercise. It’s what doctors typically refer to as exercise and diet-resistant fat.
What About Liposuction?
Liposuction still has its place. Although once considered quite a risky procedure, this is no longer the case. Today, liposuction is still one of the more popular procedures in cosmetic surgery for removing excess body fat. Thanks largely to new tools and technologies, liposuction is pretty safe and very effective. It reduces excess fat and also enhances the contours of the body. It can also work on several areas at once if necessary. Liposuction is invasive though, and that means there are incisions or some form of anaesthesia. There is also more patient downtime with liposuction compared to the nonsurgical procedures above.
Liposuction may not be necessary for those who just need to remove a little stubborn body fat. Non-surgical procedures should work quite well for people in this group. However, nonsurgical treatments are not ideal for anyone who has a lot of excess body fat to get rid of. For these patients, liposuction is the best way forward.
The Downside to Liposuction
As far as the results are concerned, there is not usually a problem with modern liposuction procedures. This is a surgery that delivers on its promise. The downsides are still evident though, namely:
- A more aggressive way to remove body fat
- More risk of complications (though rare) than nonsurgical treatments
- Creates some trauma in treated areas
- May need a second treatment in the case where there’s a lot of fat to remove
- Some soreness, swelling and bruising post-op
- Down time (duration depends on patient and the work done, but expect several days)
No one goes into liposuction ignorant and blindfolded. The surgeon will cover everything you need to know before, during and after the surgery. This is what the patient/surgeon consultation is for. Most people who need liposuction are more than prepared to put up with a little soreness and discomfort post-op. If you have been carrying around hefty deposits of excess body fat for many years, then you will relate to this. In other words, it’s a small price to pay.

All the doctors spoke perfect English too, which is always reassuring. I’ve only ever had liposuction once, and I doubt I will ever need it again. Contrary to what naturally thin people think, liposuction (or non-invasive fat removable procedures) is not some kind of armchair diet. They are invaluable cosmetic surgical treatments for those of us who have fat that is impossible to lose through regular exercise and healthy eating.
